Buying Baby Blankets for Cribs

One of the primary concerns that people hear from new parents is whether the newborn baby is warm enough.  Since the infant is used to the warm and cozy surroundings in his mom’s tummy, he would initially require the same environment.  Providing a loving hug or baby blankets is the closest thing to the womb.

Normally, the primary baby covering that will be used is the receiving blanket.  This is used to swaddle the infant.  Swaddling makes him warm and it also prevents movements that could otherwise harm the baby.  Infants yearn for this feeling of restriction as their fetal activities were controlled.  Receiving blankets are often thin and soft and come in a basic square shape.  Most hospitals have their own receiving blankets and if you’re a new mom, it’s best to ask a nurse to instruct you on how to use it.

Blankets for cribs may be larger than a small receiving blanket, but need not be full-size. They just need to cover baby, so actually a receiving blanket or two might work for you.

Other blankets for an infant’s crib could be quilts and fleece.  Quilts are a lot thicker than the receiving blanket so they’re also a lot warmer.  Take caution in buying this type of blanket if you live in tropical or extremely humid areas.  This handmade blanket is best used during winter.  It can be bought in stores or you can experiment and make your own piece.  The concept is to sew two pieces of material together and then it could be stuffed with cotton for added fluff and comfort.  This can be a great memento as designs can be sewn or embroidered on the fabrics.

Fleece blankets are extremely soft and comfortable, and that’s why they’re also popular.  They’re also warm like quilts and they often come with wonderful designs such as flowers, shapes, or cartoon characters.
